course-registration

Course Registration

It is time to start thinking about next year’s classes. A meeting will be held with each student, parent, and school representative to help students map their high school courses.

online-courses

Online Courses

High school students can use courses online for original credit or for credit recovery towards grade-level advancement and high school graduation. The school uses Apex Learning catalog to offer students a variety of online classes to choose from, including courses in English, math, science, social studies, world languages, and electives.

dual-enrollment

Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment provides the opportunity for 11th and 12th grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still attending high school. Every semester, the school along with the college counselor help students register for classes.

Students can take any college class Nashville State offers as long as they meet the prerequisite requirements for that class. This is usually satisfied by a placement test such as ACT, SAT, Pre-ACT, PSAT, or the Accuplacer test at NSCC. Please visit Nashville State Community College website or see the Dual Enrollment Presentation for more information about the dual enrollment program.

Dual enrollment students are eligible for a grant via the Dual Enrollment Grant Program. Please visit TN Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) Student Portal for more information about applying for this grant.

Grading System

Grading System is under review and will be updated soon.

academic-probation

Academic Probation

Student academic progress will be reviewed every four weeks. Any student with two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 will be placed on either Academic Notice, Academic Warning, or Academic Probation.

Parents will be notified of a student’s placement on Academic Notice, Academic Warning, or Academic Probation by a letter from the Vice Principal.

The Guidance Counselor will meet with students who receive multiple “Ds” or an “F” in any course to devise a plan for making up the course. Students are required to remediate any F in order to graduate from NIA. Remediation of Ds and Fs should take place the semester or summer following the grade report.

  1. ACADEMIC SUPPORT PROCESS:
    • Academic Notice is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the progress report periods.
    • Academic Warning is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the quarter grading periods.
    • Academic Probation is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the end of two consecutive quarter grading periods.

    • Chromebooks should be used solely for academic purposes.
    • If a student is late for or misses a lunch study session, one lunch study will be added to the end of their notice period.
  4. ACADEMIC WARNING:
  5. Academic Warning is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the quarter grading periods.

A student does not need to be on Academic Warning to be placed on Academic Probation; any student with two or more F’s is automatically placed on Academic Probation.
The final decision as to whether a student will be allowed to continue as a NIA student after being placed on Academic Probation for two consecutive quarters will be made on a case-by-case basis.
